                                Grading

Grades are based upon 25% daily assignments and 75% test scores.  Daily work is usually assigned Monday through Friday; an assignment not completed in class is sent home and due the next day unless specified.  Incomplete or missing assignments will receive a zero.  All missing assignments will be completed and turned in.  Papers turned in with a no name will be marked down 50%.

Homework will consist of completing the assignments given in class, reading, and any other special projects such as book reports.  If I assign a special project, I will send home a separate packet explaining the expectations and due dates for the project.  If your child is absent the day a special project is due, then that project will be due the day your child returns to school.

Grading Scale:

100 – 94        A

93 – 87          B

86 – 70          C

69 – 60          D

Below 60       F

Assignment Notebooks:

Assignment notebooks are an integral part of student responsibility and organization.  All students are required to use the assignment notebook or planner to record in class work and upcoming tests. Spelling Tests will given on Fridays unless your child is ill or we do not have school.  If your child is absent, please give your child the assigned week spelling test, please check the test, and have your child return the test to school.  As a class we will record other academic tests on most Mondays that the students will have throughout the week.  Parent signatures are required Monday night to show that you know when the tests for that week will occur.  Having a parent signature on the planner counts towards responsibility on the report card.

Behavior Expectations:

All students are expected to behave appropriately in my classroom as well as in and around the school.  When rules are not followed in the classroom or around the building, steps will be taken to guide the student to the appropriate behavior.

  1. Students will sign their name in the binder, and state the disruption.  For example:  I was playing with my pencil when the teacher was giving a lesson.

  1. If the student’s behavior continues after given a warning then the student will sign his/her name in the binder once again, fill out an action plan, and have study hall.  Please go over the action plan with your child and discuss what better choices could have been made.   Then sign the study hall slip and action plan.

  1. Students earn Burke Bucks for completing ALL of their assignments, working together in groups and as a class and for random acts of kindness.  Bucks may be used to rent a book, buy a new pencil, Homework passes, No Name passes and for each end of the quarter auction.

Tiger Reading Program:

Students are expected to participate in our school reading program.  The reading goal for fourth grade is 700 pages a month.  All of my students will turn in a sheet at the beginning of the month.  The sheet will list the pages read for the month.  They need to record at least one 100-page book.  Students turning this assignment in will earn 100% for that reading grade.

Class Work and Weekly Reports:

A majority of the class work turned in from the previous week will go home on Fridays and Mondays.  If a student received below a 70% on a test or an assignment, a parent will need to review the questions missed, and your child will need to re take and rewrite the correct answers on a separate piece of paper. A parent will then need to sign off that they have reviewed their child’s work, and return the test or assignment by the following school day.  In the subject area of Math, Students earning below an 85%, will need to correct their errors on a separate piece of paper or in a correction box.  Parents are expected to check over their child’s errors and sign off that these problems have been checked.

                  Together, we make a difference!
