4th Grade Curriculum
ABC Philosophy: self-contained classrooms, structured curriculum, whole class instruction, regular homework, and character development, district approved texts and materials, quarterly report cards, firm and consistent discipline and expectations, promotions based on grade level requirements.
Academic Areas:
Reading and Language Houghton-Mifflin
Reading skills stress vocabulary development and comprehension. Skills are emphasized both orally and in written work. Language focuses on word usage, sentence structure, and paragraph writing.
Spelling
A pre-test is given on Mondays. Each student has a list of the words for the next ten weeks. I have also included a list of words with this packet. Spelling tests will be given on Fridays. Should your child earn 100% on his or her spelling pretest then, your child will be excused from spelling homework and the final test for that week.
Math Saxon
Daily review of new and already introduced mathematical concepts.
Social Studies Houghton-Mifflin This is My Country
Study of the regions of the United States. Students will be responsible for knowing all of the states, capitals, and postal abbreviations by the end of the year.
